Caren Jungjohann

Caren Jungjohann (born December 23, 1967 in Duisburg ; after marriage: Caren Hecker ) is a former German hockey player and Olympic participant.

The defender made her debut in 1985 in the German national hockey team . In their first major tournament, Germany finished second at the 1986 World Cup . In 1987 the German team won the European indoor hockey championship. In the open air , the German team reached fourth place. At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , the team finished fifth, with Caren Jungjohann taking part in all five games and scoring a goal against Canada. After the team won the European Indoor Championships again in 1990, eighth place at the 1990 World Cup was a setback. In 1991, the team reached second place at the European Championships and qualified with a win at the elimination tournament in Auckland for the 1992 Olympic participation. At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona Jungjohann was again in all five games. After the German team had played 2-2 against the Spanish hosts in the preliminary round, the two teams faced each other again in the final, Spain won 2-1 after extra time.

For winning the silver medal, she received the Silver Laurel Leaf with the German hockey team on June 23, 1993.

Between 1985 and 1992, Caren Jungjohann played in 134 international matches, 10 of them indoors.

Caren Jungjohann played for the Raffelberg Club in Duisburg. In 1987 and 1991 she was German runner-up on the field with her club. During her career, Caren Jungjohann completed training as a physiotherapist.
