Thomas Möllenkamp

Thomas Möllenkamp (born October 7, 1961 in Osnabrück ) is a former German rower . He took part in the Olympic Games in 1984 and 1988 and became Olympic champion in 1988.

Möllenkamp began rowing in 1975. In 1979 he finished second at the Junior World Championships with the four-man from the Osnabrück Rowing Club . In 1980 Möllenkamp was able to qualify for the Olympic Games with the eighth (rowing) , but because of the Olympic boycott he was not allowed to go to Moscow. In 1981 Möllenkamp was seventh in the world championship with the four without a helmsman . In 1980, 1982 and 1988 Möllenkamp was German champion in the four-man category. For the Olympic Games 1984 Möllenkamp wanted to qualify in a foursome. After he didn't succeed, he started with Axel Wöstmann in two without a helmsman . The two rowers from Osnabrück surprised when they came fourth and narrowly missed the bronze medal. Four years later Möllenkamp was able to qualify for the Germany eight . With Wolfgang Maennig , Thomas Möllenkamp, Matthias Mellinghaus , Eckhardt Schultz , Ansgar Wessling , Armin Eichholz , Thomas Domian , Schlagmann Bahne Rabe and helmsman Manfred Klein , the eighth won gold at the Olympic Games in Seoul. For this success, he and the team of the Germany eight were awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf.

Möllenkamp won a total of four German championship titles. After his career, Thomas Möllenkamp was temporarily chairman of the Osnabrück rowing club. Thomas Möllenkamp has two children.
