Winslow Hall

Winslow William Hall (born May 15, 1912 in Oakland , † December 27, 1995 in Dutch Flat ) was an American rower .

Hall graduated from the University of California, Berkeley and was a member of the rowing team on the university sports team, Golden Bears . The Golden Bears had already placed the US eighth at the 1928 Olympic Games and won gold. At the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, coach Ky Ebright's Bears were again eighth. In the line-up of Edwin Salisbury , James Blair , Duncan Gregg , David Dunlap , Burton Jastram , Charles Chandler , Harold Tower , Winslow Hall and helmsman Norris Graham , the US eight won the gold medal two tenths of a second ahead of the Italians.

After completing his degree in economics, Hall worked in industry. During the Second World War Hall served in the US Navy , awarded five Battle Stars , he rose to Lieutenant Commander . After retiring from the Navy, Hall was president of a sugar company. In addition, Winslow Hall was active in local politics in Piedmont .
