Service star
A service star (also known as a battle star or campaign star ) is a five-pointed miniature bronze or silver star, 4.8 mm ( 3 ⁄ 16 inch) in diameter, worn on medals and ribbons by members of the seven uniformed services of the United States may. The Service Star indicates one or more additional awards or periods of service. The Service Star can also be worn on awards for campaigns or combat missions. The service stars are worn on the ribbon of a medal or the ribbon buckle . One point always points upwards. The number of Service Stars depends on the number of awards given. After the sixth award, instead of five bronze service stars, one silver will be worn.
Due to the strong similarity, the Service Stars are often confused with the Bronze Star and the Silver Star . Also is Service Star silver or gold version of the 5 / 16 hitmakers very similar. These also serve the same purpose, but are not approved for all branches of the armed forces.
