The Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal is a military award of the US armed forces that was introduced on March 30, 2016 as a result of an executive order from Barack Obama . The design of the order comes from the US Army Institute of Heraldry. The medal can be awarded to members of the US Army , Navy , Marine Corps , Air Force and Coast Guard for their service in Iraq, Syria or an adjacent body of water or airspace. The medal will be awarded retrospectively from June 15, 2014 until a date to be determined.

All military personnel awarded the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal for service now covered by the Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal may apply for the Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal in place of the Global War on Terrorism Expedition Medal. No award holder is entitled to the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal or the Afghanistan Campaign Medal for the same period of service during the said period.

To receive this award, a soldier must serve at least 30 consecutive days or a total of at least 60 days in the prescribed area. Members of the military who die or are wounded during their service before the stipulated period of 30 days are awarded the medal immediately. It makes no difference whether a soldier is harmed by an accident or by enemy action.
