James Stillman Rockefeller

James Stillman Rockefeller (born June 8, 1902 in Manhattan , New York City , † August 10, 2004 in Greenwich , Connecticut ) was an American rower in the figure eight, who won the 1924 Olympic Games . He was a family member of the Rockefellers , head of Citigroup, and trustee of the American Museum of Natural History .

Life

Rockefeller was born in Manhattan in New York in 1902 to William Goodsell Rockefeller and Elsie Stillman. He graduated from Yale University in 1924 as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa . He was also a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon and in the same year took on a crew of Yale teammates, including Benjamin Spock . Working together as a rowing team in the aft they won the gold medal at the Summer Olympics in 1924 in the French Paris . He appeared on the cover of Time magazine.

He was the trustee of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center .

In August 2004, Rockefeller died of a stroke in Greenwich, Connecticut.
