Fred Scarlett

Alexander Frederick "Fred" Yorke Scarlett (born April 29, 1975 in Ashford , Kent ) is a former British rower .

Fred Scarlett attended King's School in Canterbury and then studied at Oxford Brookes University . He won the Henley Royal Regatta twice in his university's boat . His international career began in 1997 with the Nations Cup when he finished fifth with the British four-man without a helmsman . In 1998, he and Steve Williams formed a two-man without a helmsman , and at the World Championships in Cologne the two took sixth place. In 1999, the 1.96 m tall Scarlett moved to the British eighth and won the silver medal behind the US eight at the World Championships . In 2000, the Croatians won the World Cup kick off, ahead of the British. At the World Cup final in Lucerne, the British won the gold medal ahead of the Australian hosts and the Croatians at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney .

Fred Scarlett's rowing career ended with the Olympic victory. He later worked in France for the champagne company Krug .
