Phelan Peter Hill , MBE (born July 21, 1979 in Bedford ) is a British rower . Hill has been the helmsman of the British eighth since 2009 , he was world champion from 2013 to 2015 and Olympic champion in 2016.

Career

Hill first appeared in the rowing World Cup in 2007, on his debut he won with the British eighth in Amsterdam. At the 2007 rowing world championships , he drove the four-man with helmsman to fourth place. With three rowers from this crew, Hill moved to eighth in 2008, who finished sixth at the European Rowing Championships; But this was in a sense the British B-eight, no rower from this boat sat in the eight that won the silver medal at the 2008 Olympic Games .

In 2013, the British ended the German winning streak since 2009. The British eighth won the World Cup regattas in Sydney and Eton, but only finished fourth in Lucerne. At the 2013 World Rowing Championships in Chungju, the British won ahead of the Germans. In 2014, the British eighth won the bronze medal at the 2014 European Rowing Championships in Belgrade with only three world champions from the previous year . For the Rowing World Championships in Amsterdam in 2014 , the eighth position was replaced again compared to the European Championships, in the end four members of the previous year's world champion sat in the boat to defend their title. In 2015 Hill won the silver medal at the European Championships and the gold medal at the World Championships with the British eighth . At the start of the 2016 season, Hill finished third with the British eighth behind the Germans and Russians at the European Championships in Brandenburg an der Havel. In the final of the 2016 Olympic Games , as in the three world championships since 2013, the British managed to win ahead of Germany eighth.
