Laurence Stoddard
Laurence Ralph "Chick" Stoddard (born December 22, 1903 in New York City , † January 26, 1997 in Bridgeport , Connecticut ) was an American rower .
The 1.67 m tall Stoddard was a university pick at Yale University in both swimming and rowing. In 1924 he was the helmsman of the Yale eight, which started for the United States at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris. In the second run, the crew won ahead of the boats from Canada and the Netherlands. In the final, the British and the Italians competed as preliminary winners alongside the Americans, and the Canadians came as winners of the repechage. At the finish of the finals, the Americans had a lead of over 15 seconds over the Canadians, as in the preliminary run, the Italians received the bronze medal.
After graduating, Stoddard worked for the West India Shipping Company.
