Simon Dennis

Simon John Dennis MBE (born August 24, 1976 in Henley-on-Thames ) is a former British rower who was eighth Olympic champion in 2000.

Dennis started rowing at St Paul's School in London. He made his first experience of international competitions at the Junior World Rowing Championships in 1994 and at the Nations Cup in 1995 and 1996. He then rowed for two years in the British eight and another year in the two-man without a helmsman . He celebrated his greatest success at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney with the gold medal in eighth place. After a fifth place at the 2001 World Championships in eighth, he ended his active career in international rowing.

He attended Imperial College London , with the school's eight team he won twice at the Henley Royal Regatta (1995 at the Thames Challenge Cup and 1996 at the Grand Challenge Cup ). With his partner Steve Williams he was also successful in 1999 at The Silver Goblets & Nickalls' Challenge Cup in Henley. Today he teaches biology at Marlborough College in Wiltshire .
