Marlborough College

The Marlborough College is a school in the town of Marlborough in the county of Wiltshire , England.

It was founded in the town of Marlborough , Wiltshire in 1843 as a school for the sons of clergymen of the Anglican Church . Marlborough College is an independent school , but it was not named in the Public Schools Act of 1868 , although it was designed similar to the schools named there. Today the school has around 800 students and in 1968 was one of the first of the major independent schools to admit girls. Marlborough College was also the first of the public schools to officially abolish a boy service and criminal regime known as fagging that older students exercised over younger students in the 1920s .

Marlborough College has a large number of former students called Old Marlburians who have become famous for outstanding roles. Past students include Siegfried Sassoon , Chris de Burgh , Charles Sorley , William Morris , Rab Butler , Nick Drake , Princess Eugenie of York and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge .
