Klaus-Dieter Ludwig

Klaus-Dieter Ludwig (born January 2, 1943 in Züllichau ; † May 18, 2016 ) was a rower from the GDR . 1980 Ludwig became Olympic champion as helmsman in the eighth .

Life

The rower from SG Dynamo Potsdam became world champion for the first time in 1966 when he drove the four-man in Bled . In 1970 he became vice world champion in two with helmsman . At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , the GDR boat in the line-up of Dietrich Zander , Reinhard Gust , Rolf Jobst , Eckhard Martens and Ludwig won silver behind the four from the Federal Republic. In the following year this boat won silver at the European championships with the same crew. In 1975 Ludwig drove the GDR eighth at the World Cup in Nottingham to gold, but was still not considered for the 1976 Olympic Games.

It wasn't until 1979 that he was back in the GDR eighth and once again became world champion in Bled . In 1980 at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow , the eighth in the line-up Bernd Krauss , Hans-Peter Koppe , Ulrich Kons , Jörg Friedrich , Jens Doberschütz , Ulrich Karnatz , Uwe Dühring and batsman Bernd Höing with Ludwig as helmsman won almost three seconds ahead the runner-up British. In 1983 at the world championship in Duisburg, Ludwig again won silver in a four-man.

Ludwig was a sports teacher for the People's Police in Potsdam and switched to the Sports Department in Potsdam after 1990.
