Hans Sennewald

Hans Sennewald (born September 12, 1961 in Heckelberg ) is a former rower from the GDR . In his only Olympic participation in 1992, he won bronze in the all-German team and was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf on June 23, 1993 .
The rower from ASK Vorwärts Rostock immediately won gold in a four-man with a helmsman when he participated in the World Championship for the first time in 1982 . At the 1985 World Championships, Thomas Greiner and Hans Sennewald won bronze in the gold foursome from 1982 together with Thomas Bänsch and Olaf Förster in a foursome without a helmsman . In 1986 Sennewald switched to the GDR eighth , with whom he then won silver at the 1987 World Cup. In 1988 the sports management of the GDR withdrew the men's eighth after the World Cup races and did not allow him to compete in the Olympic Games. In 1989 the boat won silver again at the World Cup, in 1990 bronze, gold in 1989 and 1990 was won by the Germany eighth from the Federal Republic of Germany.
After the fall of the Berlin Wall , Sennewald's rowing club was re-established as the Rostock Olympic Rowing Club . In 1991 the Germany eight won gold again at the world championship, with rowers from the west in the boat. In 1992 the national coach called Detlef Kirchhoff and Hans Sennewald, two rowers from the East, to the Germany eight. At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, the boat won the bronze medal. Hans Sennewald studied business administration and is now a tax advisor. He is honorary president of the rowing association of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. His daughter Ulrike Sennewald is part of the German 2012 Olympic squad.
