Dorin Alupei

Dorin Alupei (born February 24, 1973 in Cristeşti , Botoşani district ) is a former Romanian rower who won two world titles.

Athletic career

At the Junior World Championships in 1990, the 2.04 m tall Dorin Alupei took fourth place in a four-man without a helmsman , and the following year he won the silver medal in a two-man with a helmsman . At the Nations Cup, a forerunner of the U23 World Championships , he took second place in the four-man team in 1992 .

In 1993 Alupei first competed in the adult class of the World Championships and won two medals. Together with Iulică Ruican , Nicolae Țaga , Viorel Talapan and helmsman Marin Gheorghe , he won the four with helmsman ahead of the Czechs and the Germans. Except for Țaga, everyone took part in the eighth competition the next day , where the Romanians won silver behind the Germany eighth and in front of the boat from the United States. Alupei also took part in two boat classes at the 1994 World Championships . He missed the A-final in the four without a helmsman, in the eight the Romanians won the bronze medal behind the boats from the United States and the Netherlands. In 1995 Alupei only came eighth, who finished fifth at the World Championships in Tampere .

At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Alupei started in the four without a helmsman and in the eight. Claudiu Marin , Dorin Alupei, Dimitrie Popescu and Vasile Măstăcan rowed into fifth place in the four . The Romanian eighth, with Marin and Alupei, took seventh place as the winner of the B final after missing the final by 0.55 seconds against the Australians. Fourteen days after the Olympic Games, the world championships in the non-Olympic boat classes took place in Glasgow . Dorin Alupei, Claudiu Marin, Iulică Ruican, Viorel Talapan and helmsman Alexei Răducanu won the four in front of the Czechs and the Russians.

In 1997, Alupei competed in the world championships on Lac d'Aiguebelette in a four without a helmsman and in an eight. In the four, Dorin Alupei, Claudiu Marin, Cornel Nemțoc and Florian Tudor won the bronze medal behind the British and the French. All four rowers won the silver medal behind the boat from the United States in the eighth. At the 1998 World Championships in Cologne, Alupei only rowed eighth and won the bronze medal behind the boats from the United States and Germany. In 1999 Alupei won the World Cup regattas in Hazewinkel and Vienna with the Romanian eighth . At the World Championships in St. Catharines , the Romanian eighth finished fourth. At the end of his career as an active rower, Alupei finished sixth at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney with eighth .

Dorin Alupei remained connected to rowing as an international referee and official. He is married to the rower Angela Tamaş-Alupei .
