Christian Ahrens (rower)

Christian "Chris" Ahrens (born July 24, 1976 in Iowa City ) is a former American rower who was Olympic champion in eighth and four-time world champion.

The 1.95 m tall Ahrens won the title in the four with helmsman at the 1995 World Rowing Championships . However, after eighty years before the 1996 Olympic Games, this boat class was removed from the Olympic program in favor of lightweight rowing. In 1997, Ahrens moved to the US eighth team as a batsman , who won the title at the 1997 , 1998 and 1999 World Rowing Championships . At the 2000 Olympic Games , Ahrens was no longer a batsman, but was in third from last place in the boat. The US eight could not continue his winning streak in 2000, but only reached fifth place.

After a four-year break from international rowing, Ahrens returned to the US eighth for the 2004 Olympic Games , where he was now placed in third position from the front. During Christian Ahrens' break from rowing, the US eight had won bronze in 2002 and silver in 2003 at the world championships. At the 2004 Olympic regatta, the eighth won the gold medal with Ahrens, the first gold medal for the US eighth since 1964 .

Ahrens is a graduate of Princeton University . After his sporting career, he worked for the investment company One Equity Partners .
