Matt Swick

Matt Swick (born September 1, 1978 in St. Catharines , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian rower who was world champion with the eighth in 2002 .

Athletic career

Matt Swick took in 1995 with the coxless four at the Junior World Championships in part and finished 13th. In 1998 he finished eighth in seventh place at the Nations Cup, a forerunner of the U23 World Championships .

In 2000 the Canadian eighth with Matt Swick finished fourth at the Rowing World Cup in Vienna and fifth in Lucerne. At the Olympic Games in Sydney , the Canadian eight started with Michael Belenkie , Bryan Donnelly , Matt Swick, Thomas Herschmiller , Lawrence Varga , Morgan Crooks , David Calder , Adam Parfitt and helmsman Chris Taylor and finished in seventh place as the winner of the B final.

In 2001 Swick won the World Cup regatta in New Jersey with Andrew Hoskins , Lawrence Varga and Kevin Light in a four without a helmsman in front of the boat from the United States, but only these two boats were at the start. At the World Championships in Lucerne , the Canadian eighth took sixth place in the line-up of Matt Swick, Jeff Powell , Henry Hering , Thomas Herschmiller, Lawrence Varga, Andrew Hoskins, Joseph Stankevicius , Kevin Light and helmsman Brian Price .

In 2002, the Canadian eighth finished third at the World Cup regatta in Lucerne behind the boats from the United States and Germany. At the World Championships in Seville , the Canadian eight won ahead of the Germany eight and the boat from the United States. Compared to the cast of the previous year, Ben Rutledge , Kyle Hamilton and Adam Kreek were there instead of Hering, Herschmiller and Varga. The 1.85 m tall Matt Swick ended his competitive sports career after winning the world title.
