Thorsten Engelmann (born July 20, 1981 in Berlin ) is a former German oarsman.

He learned to row at the rowing club Collegia in Berlin and switched to the rowing club Tegel 1886 in 1996 . In 2000 he became U23 world champion in eight and since 2001 Thorsten Engelmann, together with athletes like Sebastian Schulte and Bernd Heidicker, formed the regular line-up of the Germany eight , with whom he won the World Cup bronze (2001 and 2005), World Cup silver (2002) Eton became world champion in 2006 . He finished fourth at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.

While studying economics at the Ruhr University in Bochum, he also completed a few semesters at the University of Cambridge . There he qualified for the university boat in 2006 and 2007 and competed in the world-famous boat race . After losing with his team to the eighth from Oxford in 2006, he led the Cambridge team to victory as a batsman in 2007. The year 2007 continued to be positive and ended with a runner-up world title for eighth. After his return to Germany and weak performances at the World Cups, he lost his place in the Germany eighth place in 2008 after the German Rowing Association formed a completely new team shortly before the Olympic Games.

Engelmann is currently working as a controller in internal auditing at ThyssenKrupp AG in Düsseldorf.

On May 8, 2010, Engelmann was Stefan Raab's opponent on the TV show Schlag den Raab , but he lost this TV duel by half a million euros in the fourteenth game.
