Bernd Heidicker (born April 5, 1978 in Recklinghausen ) is a former German rower .

He learned to row at the Emscher Wanne-Eickel-Herten rowing club and quickly achieved his first successes. In 1995 he was junior world champion in eighth , a year later together with Ulf Siemes junior vice world champion in two-man without a helmsman .

In 1997 he took third place with an U23 team on his first appearance in the Rowing World Cup in Munich , the boat qualified for the Nations Cup and won the U23 world championship in eighth place. Heidicker was also used in the World Cup in 1998 and won silver at the Nations Cup at the end of the season in a foursome without with Jens Kleinschmidt, Alexander Palfner and Johannes Rothe .

In 1999 he qualified in a foursome together with Philipp Stüer , Stefan Heinze and Dirk Meusel for the World Championships in St. Catherines, but missed the finals there and came in seventh.

In the following year, the four-man who now rowed instead of Heinze Jörg Dießner , with two seventh places in the World Cup, missed the direct Olympic qualification. Only Dießner and Meusel were nominated, but Heidicker took part in the Olympic Games in Sydney as a substitute .

In 2001, Heidicker was finally able to secure a permanent place in the foursome and won silver as a batsman with Sebastian Thormann , Paul Dienstbach and Philipp Stüer at the World Championships in Lucerne . With the same line-up, the boat won the title at the World Championships in Seville in 2002 and set the world best time of 5: 41.38 minutes , which was valid until 2012 . The following year the team won bronze at the World Championships in Milan .

At the Olympic Games in Athens , Jochen Urban replaced Paul Dienstbach, who had recently fallen ill. Although the team set a new Olympic record in the run-up, Bernd Heidicker's boat only reached the B final, but was able to win it and thus took seventh place.

In 2005 Heidicker took part in the Boat Race for Cambridge University , where he was now studying, but lost to the eighth from Oxford. He paused the rest of the season and only appeared at the World Cup in Munich in 2006 together with Philipp Stüer in a two-man game without appearing again internationally. For the third World Cup of the year, both moved into the eighth place in Germany , with Heidicker as batsman, the team in Eton could become world champions. A year later, Heidicker led the eighth at the home world championships in Munich to silver.

After poor preliminary performances in two and bad World Cup results in the eighth before the Olympic Games in Beijing , Heidicker lost his place in eighth because the German Rowing Association formed a completely new team shortly before the Olympic Games. He then ended his active rowing career.

Bernd Heidicker is currently driving in the eighth of RV Emscher Wanne-Eickel in the rowing league .
