Carlo Mornati

Carlo Mornati (born March 16, 1972 in Lecco ) is a former Italian rower who won an Olympic medal and eight world championship medals.

Athletic career

The 1.87 m tall Carlo Mornati won the silver medal in the four without a helmsman at the U23 World Championships in 1992 . At the 1994 World Championships in the adult class, Mornati rowed as a batsman in the Italian four-man without a helmsman with Valter Molea , Riccardo Dei Rossi and Raffaello Leonardo and won the title in front of the French and the British on his first participation in the World Championship. In 1995 in Tampere , the four Italians defended the title from the British and the Poles. At the 1996 Olympic Games, the Australians won ahead of the French and the British, the four Italians finished sixth.

In 1998, Lorenzo Carboncini moved into the foursome for Leonardo, who won the bronze medal behind the British and French at the World Championships . In 1999 in St. Catharines the British won again, the Italians won the bronze medal behind the Australians. At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, the four Italians won the silver medal behind the British but ahead of the Australians.

In 2002 Niccolò Mornati and Raffaello Leonardo came on board for Molea and Dei Rossi, the new line-up won the bronze medal behind the Germans and the British at the 2002 World Championships . Ironically, at the 2003 World Championships in front of a home crowd in Milan, the Italian four-man missed the medal ranks with fifth place. At the 2004 Olympic Games , Carlo Mornati finished seventh with the Italian eighth .

At the World Championships in 2005 and 2006 , Carlo Mornati won the silver medal with the Italian eighth, in 2005 behind the US eight and in 2006 behind the Germany eight . At the 2007 World Championships , Carlo Mornati, Alessio Sartori , Niccolò Mornati and Lorenzo Carboncini competed again in the four-man without a helmsman and won the silver medal behind the New Zealand four-man, at the 2008 Olympic Games Carlo Mornati only came eleventh in the four-man without a helmsman.
