Cameron Baerg

Cameron "Cam" Baerg (born October 17, 1972 in Saskatoon ) is a former Canadian rower .

Athletic career

The 1.82 m tall Baerg from the Saskatoon Rowing Club began rowing in 1987. He had his first big international start at the 2002 World Championships in Seville, when he competed with Scott Frandsen in two without a helmsman and was eliminated in the semi-finals. In 2003 Baerg formed a four without a helmsman together with Thomas Herschmiller , Jake Wetzel and Barney Williams . This boat won the World Cup in Lucerne in front of the boats from Italy and Germany. At the World Championships in Milan, the Canadians lost to the German foursome in the semifinals, and in the final the Canadians won the gold medal ahead of the British and the Germans.

In 2004 the four Canadians won the World Cup in Munich, but lost to the US foursome in Lucerne. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, the Canadians won the first semi-final, the British won the second semi-final. In the Olympic final, the British won eight hundredths of a second ahead of the Canadians, three seconds behind the Italians won the bronze medal. In 2005, Baerg and Williams switched to the Canadian eighth, who finished seventh at the World Championships in Gifu .
