Mateusz Wilangowski (born October 7, 1991 in Mokre , Grudziądz municipality ) is a Polish rower . In 2019 he was world champion in the four without a helmsman .

Career

Wilangowski started rowing in 2007. In 2012 he took fifth place with the Polish eighth at the U23 World Championships , in 2013 the Polish crew won bronze.

At the European Championships in 2014 , he and Konrad Wojewodzic competed in two without a helmsman and took eighth place. At the 2014 World Championships in Amsterdam, the 1.95 m tall Wilangowski was among the Polish eighth and won a bronze medal behind the boats from the United Kingdom and Germany. In 2015 he was also part of the Polish eighth. At the European Championships in 2015 the boat took fourth place, at the World Championships in 2015 the Polish eighth came in eighth. At the beginning of the 2016 season, the eighth came in fifth at the European Championships . In the qualifying regatta for the 2016 Olympic Games , the Poles crossed the finish line second behind the eighth from the United States. With that the qualification was done, in Rio de Janeiro at the Olympic Regatta the Poles reached the finals and finished fifth.

In 2017, Wilangowski won the silver medal behind the Germany eighth at the European Championships in Račice u Štětí , and the Polish eighth took tenth place at the 2017 World Championships . The following year, the Polish eighth missed the final at the 2018 European Championships . Wilangowski then switched to the four without a helmsman , who took seventh place at the 2018 World Championships in the line-up of Zbigniew Schodowski , Mateusz Wilangowski, Mikołaj Burda and Michał Szpakowski . In 2019, the Polish four-man with Burda, Wilangowski, Marcin Brzeziński and Szpakowski won the World Cup opener in Plovdiv. At the 2019 European Championships in Lucerne, the Polish four-man won silver behind the British. After a third place at the World Cup in Poznan and a sixth place at the World Cup in Rotterdam, the Polish four-man won the 2019 World Championships in Linz / Ottensheim ahead of the Romanians and the British.

Wilangowski starts for the Wisła Grudziądz association .
