Thomas Herschmiller

Thomas "Tom" Alan Herschmiller (born April 6, 1978 in Comox , British Columbia ) is a former Canadian rower .

Athletic career

The 1.98 m tall Herschmiller took fifth place in 1997 with the Canadian eighth at the Nations Cup , the predecessor of the U23 World Championships. At the 1998 World Championships , he finished eighth with eighth place. The Canadian eighth achieved the same ranking at the 1999 World Championships , which were held in front of a home crowd in St. Catharines. At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000, the Canadian eighth finished seventh. In 2001 he took sixth place at the World Championships in Lucerne.

After a year break, Thomas Herschmiller formed a four-man without a helmsman in 2003 together with Cameron Baerg , Jake Wetzel and Barney Williams . This boat won the World Cup in Lucerne in front of the boats from Italy and Germany. At the World Championships in Milan, the Canadians lost to the German foursome in the semifinals, and in the final the Canadians won the gold medal ahead of the British and the Germans.

In 2004 the four Canadians won the World Cup in Munich, but lost to the US foursome in Lucerne. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, the Canadians won the first semi-final, the British won the second semi-final. In the Olympic final, the British won eight hundredths of a second ahead of the Canadians, three seconds behind the Italians won the bronze medal.
