Marcin Mariusz Brzeziński (born January 6, 1984 in Warsaw , Poland ) is a Polish rower .

Career

Brzeziński began rowing in 1997. At the Junior World Championships he started as a sculler twice, finishing 10th in 2001 in Duisburg and bronze in 2002 in Trakai, each in a quadruple sculler . With the entry into the senior age group, Brzeziński rowed from then on for two years at the then unofficial U23 World Championships . He won a bronze medal in the double scull in 2003 and finished in 7th place in the double scull in the Polish Poznan in the title bouts of the B senior the following year .

From the 2005 season on Brzeziński joined the open age group. After his first participation in the Rowing World Cup in double sculls, he recommended himself for the Polish national team and henceforth formed a double scull with Michał Słoma , which he rowed until the 2007 season. The duo took 9th place at the 2005 World Championships in Japan, 4th place the following year in Great Britain and 12th place at the World Championships in Munich. When the European Championships were reintroduced in Poland in 2007 , the duo reached the finish line just outside the medal ranks in fourth place.

In the Olympic season Brzeziński started weak with a new two-man partner at the Rowing World Cup. He was still able to go to the 2008 Summer Olympics because he spontaneously switched to the belt division and was able to get a place in the Polish eighth. In the four years before the Beijing Games, he had regularly placed in the A-final of the World Championships. With Sebastian Kosiorek , Michał Stawowski , Patryk Brzeziński , Sławomir Kruszkowski , Wojciech Gutorski , Marcin Brzeziński, Rafał Hejmej , batsman Mikołaj Burda and helmsman Daniel Trojanowski , the Polish team reached the final and took fifth place in the European championship won the bronze medal a few weeks later.

Brzeziński remained loyal to the Polish eighth and was able to win several European Championship medals and titles as a result. At the European Championships in Belarus in 2009 , the team became European champions for the first time, followed by an EM silver medal in 2010 . The Polish eighth also won the European title fights in 2011 and 2012 with Brzeziński on board. At the world championships they were not that successful and finished fourth in the 2009 championships in Poznan, eighth in 2010 and another fifth in the pre-Olympic season 2011 . Brzeziński was able to take part in the Summer Olympics for the second time in 2012 as a regular in eighth place . In London, however, the team with Marcin Brzeziński, Piotr Juszczak , Mikołaj Burda, Piotr Hojka , Zbigniew Schodowski , Michał Szpakowski , Krystian Aranowski , Rafał Hejmej and helmsman Daniel Trojanowski missed the final and took 7th place.

Even after the games in Great Britain Brzeziński continued his career in the Polish eighth. At the European Championships in 2013 he achieved the silver medal. At the 2014 World Championships , Brzeziński also won his first medal at World Championships with third place. With three fourth places at the 2013 World Championships and the 2014 and 2015 European Championships , the Polish eighth narrowly missed further medal placements. The 2015 World Rowing Championships on the French Lac d'Aiguebelette were disappointing , where the team from Poland with Brzeziński only reached 8th place and missed direct qualification for the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. After qualifying in Lucerne in May 2016, the Polish eighth finished fifth at the 2016 Olympic Games .

In May 2017, the Polish eighth with Brzeziński won the silver medal at the 2017 European Championships behind the Germans . In May 2017, the Polish eighth with Burda won the silver medal behind the Germans at the 2017 European Championships . In 2018 Brzeziński did not reach the final in eighth at the European Championships or in two without a helmsman at the World Championships. In 2019, the Polish four-man without a helmsman with Mikołaj Burda, Mateusz Wilangowski , Marcin Brzeziński and Michał Szpakowski won the World Cup opener in Plovdiv. At the 2019 European Championships , the crew won silver behind the British boat. Three months later, the Poles won the 2019 World Championships ahead of the Romanians and the British.

Brzeziński starts for the association WTW Warszawa in his hometown Warsaw. At a height of 1.94 m, his competition weight is around 90 kg.
