Gerd Wolter (rower)

Gerd Wolter (born May 22, 1939 in Hirschberg , Lower Silesia Province ) is a former German rower . In 1962 he became world champion in the four without a helmsman .

Life

The trained timber merchant rowed for the Lübeck Rowing Society from 1885 . At the rowing world championships in 1962 he won the first world championship title in the four without a helmsman together with Dagobert Thometschek , Peter Paustian and Christian Prey . The following year he won the European Rowing Championships in Copenhagen in 1963 together with Klaus Bittner , Egon Böttcher and Christian Prey . In 1964 Wolter drove as a substitute rower to the Olympic Games in Tokyo, but was not used.

In 1962 he won the German championship in the four without a helmsman, in 1963 he took third place, in 1964 he reached second place. In the four with helmsman he took third place in 1961 and was second in 1962; in eighth place he came third in 1961, in 1963 he was runner-up in this boat class.

The 1.93 m tall Wolter ended his sporting career in 1964.
