The Little Popo Agie River is a small river in the US state of Wyoming . It is around 93 km long and - apart from its two source rivers - the most important tributary to the Popo Agie River . Its catchment area covers almost 966 km².
The river has its source in the Shoshone National Forest on the eastern edge of the southern Wind River Range at around 3,170 m above sea level . Shortly afterwards, the mountain stream flows into the 3030 m high Christina Lake , a reservoir. Below the reservoir, the young river flows through the smaller, natural Gustave Lake . On the way down, the Little Popo Agie River takes in several streams flowing from side valleys. It leaves the alpine terrain of the Wind River Range and the national forest through a gorge called Little Popo Agie Canyon and finally reaches flatter land before passing under US Highway 287 .
This changes the characteristics of the body of water significantly - the mountain stream becomes a slow, meandering river in a wider valley. Outside the reserve, the water of the Little Popo Agie River is also used to irrigate agricultural areas. It flows north through Fremont County before flowing into the Popo Agie River at Hudson Township.
The Poposaurus was named after the first location on the Little Popo Agie River .
