The Little Wind River is a right tributary of the Wind River in the US state of Wyoming .
The river arises at Fort Washakie at the confluence of the North Fork and South Fork Little Wind River . The two source rivers arise in the southern Wind River Range . The Little Wind River flows with numerous loops in a predominantly easterly direction through the Wind River Basin , a semi-arid high valley east of the Rocky Mountains . At Arapahoe , the Popo Agie River flows from the right. At Riverton , the Little Wind River meets the Wind River coming from the west.
The Little Wind River has a length of about 80 km. Its catchment area covers 4930 km². The mean discharge 4 km above the mouth is 15.7 m³ / s. The highest monthly outflows usually occur in June.
The North Fork Little Wind River has its origin in the Wind River Range in Moraine Lake at an altitude of about 3,170 m . It initially flows north in the mountains, later in the Wind River Basin in an easterly direction. The river has a length of about 50 kilometers.
The South Fork Little Wind River has its origin in the Wind River Range in the South Fork Lakes at an altitude of about 3,180 m . It initially flows in a predominantly northeastern direction. The river to the Washakie Reservoir is dammed 17 km above the mouth . The river has a length of about 50 kilometers.
