The Wind River Range [ wɪnd ˈɹɪvə˞ ɹeɪndʒ ] ( Eng . "Wind River Mountain Range") is a mountain range of the Rocky Mountains . The mountain range runs in the west of the US state of Wyoming from northwest to southeast and forms part of the continental divide of North America over a length of around 190 km . The highest peaks are Gannett Peak (the highest point in Wyoming at 4207 m), Fremont Peak (4185 m) and Wind River Peak (4021 m).
The ridge region of the mountain range is almost completely designated as a wilderness reserve. To the west of the watershed lies the Bridger Wilderness , in the northeast the Fitzpatrick Wilderness and in the southeast the Popo Agie Wilderness . On the east side, the Wind River Indian Reservation , a reserve of the Eastern Shoshone and Arapaho Indians, extends to the summit ridge.
