Willy Hofmann

Willy Hofmann (born June 18, 1909 in Frankfurt am Main ; † January 21, 1984 in Hallgarten (Rheingau) ) was a German opera , operetta and radio singer (lyric tenor, buffo tenor).

Life

In addition to his job as a bank clerk, he had his voice trained in Frankfurt. In 1933 he made his debut as a lyric tenor with a traveling theater . The next destinations were the theaters of Gera, Munster, Nuremberg, Ulm and Wiesbaden. Many opera roles were part of his repertoire.

After the Second World War he mainly sang parts as an operetta buffo . Due to his acting skills, he was able to speak the dialogues himself in operetta recordings, while other singers often had to be doubled by actors.

Willy Hofmann worked on radio recordings and recordings. His collaboration with the conductor Franz Marszalek for the WDR and the record company Polydor was very intensive . A frequent partner of Willy Hofmann was the soubrette Rita Bartos .
