Rowing World Championships 1962
The rowing world championships in 1962 were held on the Rotsee near Lucerne . It was the first ever rowing world championship. The titles were awarded in the seven Olympic boat classes, rowers and lightweight rowers were not at the start.
Since the world rowing association FISA only allowed a German team, the rowers from the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic had to compete in an elimination race in all boat classes: The boat from the Federal Republic of Germany qualified in six boat classes. In the one, Germany was represented by Achim Hill from the GDR, who, as Olympic runner-up in 1960 , failed here in the hope run .
