Josef Steffes-Mies

Josef Steffes-Mies (born May 13, 1940 in Essen ) is a former German rower .

The 1.95 m tall Josef-Steffes-Mies rowed for the Kasteler rowing and canoeing society . Together with Jost Krause-Wichmann from RC Saar Saarbrücken , he won the German championship title in the double scull in 1962 . At the rowing world championships in 1962 , the two rowed the bronze medal. In 1963 Steffes-Mies and Krause-Wichmann defended their championship title and took fourth place at the European Rowing Championships.

After finishing second at the German championships, the duo split up. At the Summer Olympics in Tokyo occupied Helmut Lebert and Josef Steffes-Mies fifth.

Josef Steffes-Mies was a civil engineer with his own company in Mainz. In 2005 he handed over the management of the company to his son Martin , who was also successful as a rower.
