Martin Steffes-Mies

Martin Steffes-Mies (born January 12, 1967 ) is a former German rower .

The 1.99 m tall Martin Steffes-Mies rowed for the Mainz rowing club from 1878 . In 1989, together with Roland Baar , Ansgar Wessling , Dirk Balster and helmsman Manfred Klein, he won the German championship title in four with helmsman . At the 1989 World Rowing Championships , the four rowers and their helmsman sat in the Germany eight and won the world championship. In 1990, with Frank Richter for Wessling, Baar, Steffes-Mies, Balster and Klein repeated the championship title in the four. At the 1990 World Rowing Championships , the Germany eight defended the title. In 1991 Steffes-Mies won the German championship eighth for the third time in a row and then at the 1991 World Rowing Championships for the third time world championship gold .

In 1992 Martin Steffes-Mies was only a substitute for the Germany eighth who won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Barcelona . In 1993 Steffes-Mies returned to eighth place and won his fourth German championship title and also the fourth world championship title . His last championship title followed in 1994 with the eighth.

Martin Steffes-Mies is an industrial engineer. He worked for Roland Berger and Kampa , among others . In 2005 he joined his father Josef Steffes-Mies' construction company , which was sold to Strabag in 2010 . Martin Steffes-Mies is chairman of the Mainz rowing club (as of 2017).
