Roland Kostulski

Roland Kostulski (born June 13, 1953 in Borna ) is a former rower from the German Democratic Republic who won an Olympic gold medal with an eighth in 1976 .

Kostulski rowed for the SC DHfK Leipzig under coach Jörg Weissig. In 1971 he was junior world champion in the four-man without a helmsman . In 1972 he took second place with the four-man at the GDR championships, and in 1973 third. In 1973 Kostulski also took third place together with Andreas Wolf in a two-man without helmsman ; In 1974 he rowed together with Bernd Baumgart to the runner-up in this boat class. In 1975 Kostulski moved to eighth and after the GDR championship title also won the title at the World Championships in Nottingham. The boat started with the cast of Karl-Heinz Prudöhl , Ulrich Karnatz , Roland Kostulski, Werner Klatt , Friedrich-Wilhelm Ulrich , Dieter Wendisch , Gottfried Döhn , Jürgen Arndt and helmsman Klaus-Dieter Ludwig . A year later at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , the GDR eighth won the gold medal. The DHfK graduate was deputy chairman of the SC DHfK Leipzig after the end of his career. After the fall of the wall, Kostulski was the sports director of the SC DHfK Leipzig eV. Beginning in 1992, he became more involved in sports marketing and economic tasks. In 2005 Kostulski was asked to work in a managerial position for the sport again. From 2005 to 2014 he ran the office of the Saxon Gymnastics Association. In December 2013 his Olympic gold medal was stolen when a house was broken into.
