William Spencer "Will" Satch , MBE (born June 9, 1989 in Oxford ) is a British rower . He won the world championship title in 2013 and 2014 in eighth and won the gold medal in eighth in 2016.

Career

Satch won the bronze medal at the U23 World Championships in 2010 and 2011 with the British eighth . In 2012, Satch drove in two without a helmsman with George Nash , the two of whom won the bronze medal behind the boats from New Zealand and France at the Olympic regatta in Eton .

In 2013 Satch won the World Cup in Eton with the British eighth. At the World Rowing Championships in Chungju , the British eighth won ahead of the Germans, it was the first ever world title for the British men's eighth. In 2014, Alex Gregory , Mohamed Sbihi , George Nash and Andrew Triggs Hodge switched from the world championship eight to the four without a helmsman; the redesigned eighth took third place at the European Rowing Championships in 2014 , and after further changes, the eighth won the title at the 2014 World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam, ahead of the German eighth. In 2015, Satch won the silver medal at the European Championships and the gold medal at the World Championships with the British eighth . At the start of the 2016 season, Satch finished third behind the Germans and Russians with the British eighth at the European Championships in Brandenburg an der Havel. In the final of the 2016 Olympic Games , as in the three world championships since 2013, the British managed to win ahead of Germany eighth.

After some line-up changes, Satch rowed in the British foursome in 2017. At the start of the season, however, the combination of Matthew Tarrant , Satch, Callum McBrierty and Mohamed Sbihi missed the podium at the European Championships . Then McBrierty was replaced by Matthew Rossiter , with whom the team won the bronze medal behind Australia and Italy at the World Championships . In 2018, Satch returned to the UK eight. After finishing fifth at the 2018 European Championships , the British won bronze at the 2018 World Championships behind the Germans and Australians.
