Jonas Pinskus

Jonas Pinskus (born September 22, 1959 in Kuršėnai ) is a Lithuanian politician and former rower .

Life

After school in Kuršėnai, he graduated from the Šiauliai Political Science School from 1974 to 1978 and became a construction technician. In 1985 he graduated from the Faculty of Economics at Vilnius University . From 1990 to 1993 he was director of UAB "Sajona" and from 1993 to 2000 of UAB "Edroma". From 2004 to 2008 and from 2008 to 2011 he was a member of the Seimas ; since 2011 he has been the deputy mayor of Vilnius .

Pinskus was also a successful rower. At the 1980 Summer Olympics , he sat for the first time in a Soviet selection, he was able to win the bronze medal in Moscow with the eighth . In the following years he was able to establish himself firmly in the Soviet national rowing team and take part in all rowing world championships until 1987 . Pinskus was among other things world champion in eighth in 1981 and 1985 , he won two further World Cup medals in 1983 and 1986. He was denied participation in the 1984 Summer Olympics due to the Olympic boycott by the Eastern Bloc countries.
