Daniel Măstăcan

Daniel Marian Măstăcan (born September 7, 1980 in Bîrlad , Vaslui County ) is a former Romanian rower who was world eighth champion in 2001 .

Athletic career

The 1.97 m tall Daniel Măstăcan won the 1997 World Junior Championships title in four with helmsman and eight . In 1998 he won the four without a helmsman and won the bronze medal with the eight. In 1999 he rowed in quadruples . He won the bronze medal at the Nations Cup , a forerunner of the U23 World Championships . At the 1999 World Championships in St. Catharines , he only reached the C-final and took 13th place overall. The following year he won the Nations Cup with a double foursome. At the 2000 World Championships , he rowed with Nicolae Țaga and helmsman Marin Gheorghe in twos with helmsman . In this boat class, the boat from the United States won by almost three seconds over the Romanians, who in turn had half a second ahead of the third-placed French.

2001 Daniel Măstăcan won the World Cup in Seville with the Romanian eighth. At the World Cup in Munich, he finished fourth with eighth place. Together with Florin Corbeanu he reached second place in the two without a helmsman in Munich . At the 2001 World Championships in Lucerne, Corbeanu and Măstăcan also competed in both boat classes. In a two-man game, they finished fourth, 0.81 seconds behind the third-placed South Africans. The day after the two-man final, the final took place in eighth place, here the Romanians won with one second ahead of the Croatians and another second ahead of the third-placed Germans. This was the first ever world title for the Romanian men's eighth.

Also in the 2002 World Championships in Seville Daniel Măstăcan approached in two boat classes, he finished 15th in two and the 8th place with the roller. The following year he reached the 10th place in the four without a helmsman at the World Championships in Milan . He also competed in a four-man at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. The crew with Florin Corbeanu, Ovidiu Cornea , Daniel Măstăcan and Gheorghița Munteanu took 13th and last place.
