Mohamed Sbihi

Mohamed Karim "Moe" Sbihi , MBE (born March 27, 1988 in Kingston upon Thames ) is a British rower . He won the world championship title in 2013 in eight and in 2014 in four without a helmsman .

Career

Sbihi started at the Junior World Championships in 2006 and finished fifth in the two-man without helmsman. In 2007 Sbihi won the bronze medal at the U23 World Championships with the four without a helmsman . In 2009 Sbihi drove to third place in two World Cup regattas, at the U23 World Championships in 2009 he was eighth in a two-man without helmsman together with James Foad . In 2010 both won the first World Cup regatta with eighth, but without the Germany eighth . At the World Championships in New Zealand , the British received the silver medal behind the Germans, just like a year later at the 2011 World Championships in Bled .

In the 2012 Olympic season, the British eighth took second place twice and came third once, at the Olympiaregatta in Eton the British eighth took third place behind the Germans and Canadians. For the 2013 season , three rowers, Alex Gregory , Peter Reed and Andrew Triggs Hodge, switched from the British four to eight, who won the first two World Cup regattas and finished fourth in Lucerne. At the World Rowing Championships in Chungju , the British eighth won ahead of the Germans, it was the first ever world title for the British men's eighth. In 2014, Alex Gregory, Mohamed Sbihi, George Nash and Andrew Triggs Hodge switched from the world championship eight to the four without a helmsman; this boat won both the 2014 European Rowing Championships in Belgrade and the 2014 World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam. In 2015 Sbihi won the silver medal at the European Championships and the gold medal at the World Championships with the British eighth . At the 2016 European Championships , Alex Gregory, Mohamed Sbihi, George Nash and Constantine Louloudis, four rowers from the 2015 world championship eight , competed in a four-man without a helmsman and won the title. In the same line-up, the British four-man also won the 2016 Olympic Games .

After some changes in line-up, Sbihi also rowed in the British foursome in 2017. At the beginning of the season, however, the combination of Matthew Tarrant , William Satch , Callum McBrierty and Sbihi missed the podium at the European Championships . Then McBrierty was replaced by Matthew Rossiter , with whom the team won the bronze medal behind Australia and Italy at the World Championships . In 2018 Sbihi returned to eighth. After finishing fifth at the 2018 European Championships , when Sbihi failed in the final, the British won bronze at the 2018 World Championships behind the Germans and Australians. The following year, the British eighth won silver behind the Germans at the 2019 European Championships . At the 2019 World Championships, the Germans won ahead of the Dutch and the British.
