Duje Bonačić
Duje Bonačić (born April 10, 1929 in Split ; † January 24, 2020 there ) was a Yugoslav rower .
Life
Bonačić started for the HVK Gusar club from his hometown of Split. His greatest success was winning the gold medal in the four without a helmsman together with Petar Šegvić , Mate Trojanović and Velimir Valenta at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki . In the same year, he and his teammates from the gold four were awarded the Izbor Sportskih novosti award in the Croatia section by sports journalists from the Croatian daily Sportske Novosti (means about Sportsman of the Year in Croatia ).
After graduating from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Zagreb , he worked as a teacher at the Naval School in Split, where he was rector for 13 years. He was also a sports official in the Yugoslav Rowing Association. He was also active in regatta sailing and won several local regattas.
