Ed Coode

Edward "Ed" Coode MBE (born June 19, 1975 in Falmouth , Cornwall ) is a former British rower . He is a two-time world champion and an Olympic champion in the four without a helmsman .

Coode studied at Eton College , Newcastle University and Oxford University . In Oxford he took part in the rowing contest against Cambridge University in 1998 , which Oxford lost that year.

1999 Coode slipped as a substitute in the British four-man without a helmsman and became world champion for the first time together with Steve Redgrave , Matthew Pinsent and James Cracknell . In 2001 his second world title followed. In the cast of Stephen Williams , Rick Dunn , Edward Coode and Toby Garbett , the British four-man without a helmsman secured gold in front of Germany and Slovenia.

At the World Championships in 2002 Coode could not participate due to an injury. Josh West took his place in the four without a helmsman . Coode became a member of the British eight with whom he won the bronze medal at the 2003 World Rowing Championships.

As a substitute for the injured Alex Partridge , Coode came back into the four without a helmsman at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens . Together with Pinsent, Cracknell and Williams, he fought a tough race with the Canadian boat and in the end became Olympic champion with eight hundredths of a lead.
