Erik Petersen

Erik Petersen (born September 23, 1939 in Copenhagen ) is a former Danish rower .

The Danish four without a helmsman from the KVIK rowing club in Copenhagen was trained by Poul Danning. At the European Championships in 1963 , the crew took fifth place. The following year, the German four-man won ahead of the Danish boat at the European Championships in Amsterdam in 1964 . At the 1964 Olympiaregatta , the Danes won the first run, the British won the second run and the German European champions won the third run. In the final, the German batsman Günter Schroers was in poor health and the German foursome only came in sixth place, the Danes won in the final sprint just ahead of the British and the US foursome. On his last appearance, the Danish four-man finished sixth at the 1966 World Championships .

While Hansen and Hasløv ended their careers, Erik Petersen and Kurt Helmudt continued to row in the foursome. Together with Tom Hindsby and Poul Nielsen they won the bronze medal at the 1970 World Championships behind the boats from the GDR and the FRG.

Erik Petersen, who is 1.84 m tall, was a plumber by profession.
