Rudolf Eckstein

Rudolf Eckstein (born January 1, 1915 - † May 25, 1993 ) was a German rower . In 1936 he became Olympic champion in the four-man without a helmsman .

Eckstein won his first German championship title in 1933 with the eighth of the Würzburg rowing club from 1875 . In the following year he switched to the four without a helmsman with Anton Rom , Martin Karl and Wilhelm Menne and, after winning the German championship, also won the European championship in Lucerne . In 1935 Martin Karl was missing, Ernst Gaber from the Mannheim rowing club Amicitia was on the boat for him . The four rowers won both in the boat class four without and in the four with a helmsman at the German championship. Together with helmsman Johann Pfadenhauer, they also won the European Championships in Berlin . In 1936 Martin Karl returned to the boat. Eckstein, Rom, Karl and Menne also won the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. After 1936 Eckstein moved to Berlin to the rowing club at Wannsee . At the European Championships in Milan in 1938 , he won the two without a helmsman together with Heinrich Stelzer . In 1939 the two were able to defend their German championship title from 1938.
