John Badcock
John Charles "Felix" Badcock (born January 17, 1903 in West Ham , † May 29, 1976 in Petersfield ) was a British rower .
John Badcock competed in the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam with the eighth of the Thames Rowing Club . The British reached the final unbeaten, only there they were defeated by the boat from the United States. Four years later rowed Jack Beresford and John Badcock from the back in 1928 along with Hugh Edwards and Rowland George in the coxless four at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The British won their first heat against the Americans and against the Germans, but both of the losing boats also reached the final via the hope run. There the British won the gold medal with almost five seconds ahead of the Germans and the Italians.
Badcock came from a family of boat builders and stevedores and so came to rowing. In 1934 he married the swimmer Margaret Cooper , the sons David and Felix were successful as rowers in the 1950s, but, unlike their parents, did not reach the Olympic Games.
