Matteo Castaldo

Matteo Castaldo (born December 11, 1985 in Naples ) is an Italian rower .

Matteo Castaldo began rowing in 1996. In 2003 he took fourth place at the Junior World Championships in a pair without a helmsman . At the U23 World Championships in 2004 he received the silver medal in the lightweight foursome without a helmsman . In 2007 he also won U23 silver, this time in a double without a helmsman and without weight restrictions. In 2008 and 2009 Castaldo rowed in the Rowing World Cup , after which he remained without an international result for two years.

At the European Championships in 2012 , Castaldo returned to international regatta with a ninth place in the four-man without a helmsman . In 2013 he formed a two-man without helmsman with Marco Di Costanzo , after finishing fourth at the 2013 European Championships , the two achieved second place at the World Cup in Lucerne and sixth place at the World Championships . The following year followed a fifth place at the European championships and a seventh place at the world championships .

In 2015, a new Italian four-man without a helmsman was created with Marco Di Costanzo, Matteo Castaldo, Matteo Lodo and Giuseppe Vicino . At the World Cup in Varese, the Italians finished second behind the US foursome, in Lucerne the Australians won ahead of the Italians. At the 2015 World Championships on Lac d'Aiguebelette , the Italians won the title ahead of the Australians and the British. The following year, Domenico Montrone , Castaldo, Lodo and Vicino rowed in the Italian four-man, in this line-up they won the bronze medal at the 2016 Olympic Games behind the British and Australians. At the European Championships 2017 , the Italian four-man without a helmsman won with Di Costanzo, Giovanni Abagnale , Castaldo and Montrone, and at the end of the season the quartet won silver at the World Championships in Florida behind Australia.

At the European Championships in 2018 , the Italian four-man with Vincenzo Abbagnale , Giovanni Abagnale, Marco Di Costanzo and Matteo Castaldo took fourth place. A month and a half later, the boat started at the World Championships in Plovdiv with Matteo Castaldo, Bruno Rosetti , Matteo Lodo and Marco Di Costanzo. As in the previous year, the Italian four-man won silver behind the Australians.
