Giovanni Abagnale

Giovanni Abagnale (born January 11, 1995 in Gragnano ) is an Italian rower .

Athletic career

Giovanni Abagnale won at the Junior World Championships in 2011 and the Junior World Championships in 2012 with the Italian eighth title. At the Junior World Championships in 2013 , he took second place with the four-man without a helmsman . Abagnale received his first adult medal at the 2014 European Championships when he won bronze in a foursome with Cesare Gabbia , Paolo Perino and Giuseppe Vicino . In the U23 World Championships in 2014 on home soil in Varese of the Italian foursome with Cesare Gabbia, won Marco Di Costanzo , Giovanni Abagnale and Vincenzo Abbagnale . At the 2014 World Championships in the adult class, Abagnale finished ninth with eighth.

In 2015 he rowed in the World Cup together with Abbagnale in two without a helmsman . At the 2015 World Championships on Lac d'Aiguebelette , he finished sixth with eighth, the first five boats qualified directly for the Olympic Games. In 2016, the Italian eighth finished second at the World Cup in Varese and third at the Olympic qualification in Lucerne, the first two boats of this regatta also qualified for the Olympic regatta. At the last World Cup regatta, Abagnale and Domenico Montrone took sixth place in a pair. At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , Giovanni Abagnale and Marco Di Costanzo started in two, they won the bronze medal behind the boats from New Zealand and South Africa. At the European Championships 2017 , the Italian four-man without a helmsman won with Di Costanzo, Abagnale, Matteo Castaldo and Montrone, and at the end of the season the quartet won silver at the World Championships in Florida behind Australia.
