Mikołaj Piotr Burda (born July 8, 1982 in Toruń , Poland ) is a Polish rower .

Career

Burda began rowing in 1995. As a 16-year-old he was able to compete in the rowing world cup for the first time , he was used as a lightweight in eighth in Hazewinkel , Belgium , and promptly won a silver medal. In the same year he won the gold medal in the Polish junior eighth in the open weight class at the U19 World Championships in Plovdiv. In 2000 a silver medal followed at the Junior World Championships in two without a helmsman .

With reaching the senior class, Burda was able to establish itself as a permanent fixture in the Polish men's eight from 2001. In the Olympic cycle of Athens he took part in the 2001 World Championships in Lucerne, in Seville in 2002 and in Milan in 2003 . The team reached the B final. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens Burda also rowed in the Polish eighth with Bogdan Zalewski , Piotr Buchalski , Rafał Hejmej , Dariusz Nowak , Wojciech Gutorski , Sebastian Kosiorek , Michał Stawowski and helmsman Daniel Trojanowski . The team could not reach the final and finished 8th overall.

In the four years before the Beijing Games, the Polish eighth with Burda was able to regularly place in the A-final of the World Championships. At the 2005 World Championships in Japan, he took 5th place, the following year at the World Rowing World Championships in Eton, 6th place. In Munich 2007 , another fifth place followed, and with the silver medal at the re-introduced European Championships in Poznan, Burda and the Polish eighth came first Podium placement. The qualification for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing also succeeded. Even after the games in Great Britain, Burda continued his career in the Polish eighth. At the 2013 European Championships , he achieved silver. At the 2014 World Championships , Burda also won its first World Cup medal with third place. With three fourth places at the 2013 World Championships and the 2014 and 2015 European Championships , the Polish eighth narrowly missed further medal placements. The 2015 World Rowing Championships on the French Lac d'Aiguebelette were disappointing , where the team from Poland with Burda only reached 8th place and missed direct qualification for the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. After qualifying in Lucerne in May 2016, the Polish eighth finished fifth at the 2016 Olympic Games . In 2018 Burda switched to the four-man without a helmsman , but did not reach the finals at either the European or the World Championships. In 2019, the Polish four-man with Mikołaj Burda, Mateusz Wilangowski , Marcin Brzeziński and Michał Szpakowski won the World Cup opener in Plovdiv. At the 2019 European Championships , the crew won silver behind the British boat. Three months later, the Poles won the 2019 World Championships ahead of the Romanians and the British.

From 2001 to 2016, Mikołaj Burda took part in all World Championship and European Championship title fights as well as in all Olympic rowing regattas in the men's eighth. He also competed in 39 regattas of the Rowing World Cup until 2016.

Burda starts for the Bydgostia Bydgoszcz association . At a height of 1.91 m, his competition weight is around 98 kg.
