Piotr Juszczak (born July 3, 1988 in Kalisz , Poland ) is a Polish rower .

Career

Juszczak began rowing in 2000 at the young age of 12. In 2006 he was able to take part in the junior class in a four-man with a helmsman at the U19 World Championships in Amsterdam and reach the final. He then went through the junior division of adults, where he started four years in a row at the U23 World Championships from 2007 to 2010 , winning a bronze medal in 2008 and a gold medal in 2009.

From 2009 Juszczak was also able to offer himself for the national team in the open age group. At the European Championships in Brest, Belarus, he rowed to ninth place in a four-man without a helmsman , but in the following year he was allowed to start in the Polish top team, eighth in the rowing world cup . He quickly established himself in the big boat and was able to win several EM medals and titles as a result. At the European Championships in 2010 , the Polish eighth with Juszczak on board took silver; the team won the European championships in 2011 . At the World Championships they were not that successful and finished 8th in 2010 and fifth in the pre-Olympic season 2011 . Juszczak was able to take part in the Summer Olympics for the first time in 2012 as a regular in eighth place . In London, however, the team with Marcin Brzeziński , Piotr Juszczak, Mikołaj Burda , Piotr Hojka , Zbigniew Schodowski , Michał Szpakowski , Krystian Aranowski , Rafał Hejmej and helmsman Daniel Trojanowski missed the final and took 7th place.

Even after the games in Great Britain Juszczak continued his career in the Polish eighth. At the 2013 European Championships , he achieved silver. At the 2014 World Championships , Juszczak also won his first World Championship medal with third place. With three fourth places at the 2013 World Championships and the 2014 and 2015 European Championships , the Polish eighth narrowly missed further medal placements. The 2015 World Rowing Championships on the French Lac d'Aiguebelette were disappointing , where the Polish team with Juszczak only achieved 8th place and missed direct qualification for the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. After qualifying in Lucerne in May 2016, the Polish eighth finished fifth at the 2016 Olympic Games .

Juszczak starts for the clubs Zawisza Bydgoszcz and Kaliskie TW . At a height of 1.97 m, his competition weight is around 90 kg.
