history

Victory in the Polish Cup 2014

The association was founded in May 1946 in Koszalin by soldiers from the 48th regional auto repair shop. Koszalin was at the time the seat of the Polish Military District Command II. The first club president was Lieutenant Colonel Marian Gutaker. The colors of the ribbon buckle of the Virtuti Militari order were chosen as the club colors . In 1947 the high command of the defense area was transferred to Bydgoszcz and the association was renamed WKS Zawisza Bydgoszcz . In response to political pressure, the association was renamed Legia Bydgoszcz in February 1950 and OWKS Bydgoszcz in October . The club colors were adapted to the other army sports clubs and were now green-white-red . In 1954 the club was renamed CWKS Bydgoszcz and, by decision of the Polish Ministry of Defense, together with all other army sports clubs, with the exception of Legia Warsaw , withdrew from gaming. A year later he returned to the 2nd division. In 1957, army sports clubs were allowed to return to their original club names. Three years later, Zawisza celebrated promotion to the first Polish league under the Hungarian coach Kristóf Scharle . In 1976 they returned to the original club colors. In 1981 the junior team won the Polish championship. In the 1993 season Zawisza took part in the Intertoto Cup . A year later, the club was relegated to the 2nd Polish league . In 1998 the 1st team was dissolved for financial reasons, the juniors of the club were registered for the 4th Polish league. In 2000 a former player from Zawisza, Piotr Nowak , relocated his third division club KP Konin to Bydgoszcz and called him Zawisza SSA (Sportaktiengesellschaft). A year later, Zawisza SSA is dissolved again, the team from the 4th division merges with Chemik Bydgoszcz to Chemik / Zawisza Bydgoszcz . In 2003 the merger was dissolved and a new club, the SP Zawisza , was founded by the fans. In 2006, the second division club Kujawiak Włocławek was moved from its owner to Bydgoszcz and renamed Zawisza SA (joint stock company), but most fans in Poland boycotted this club and thus demonstrated their solidarity with SP Zawisza, who played in the 4th division . A year later, Zawisza SA is withdrawn from the 2nd division due to manipulation of the games by the predecessor club Kujawiak Włocławek and later dissolved, the fan club SP Zawisza continues to play in the 4th division. In 2008, SP Zawisza took 1st place in the 4th division and, after two promotion games, managed to move up to the second division, which was newly founded after the league reform (previously the third division). In 2009 the city of Bydgoszcz and SP Zawisza founded a new association, WKS Zawisza SA (joint stock company). In 2011, the new club was runner-up in the 2nd division and celebrated promotion to the 1st division . In 2013 Zawisza became champions of the first division and thus managed to return to the Ekstraklasa after 19 years . A year later they celebrated the most successful season in the club's history by winning the Polish Cup and the Supercup. The club qualified for the UEFA Europa League . In the next year they got relegated to the first division . In 2016, the owner sold the club after missing the promotion. Zawisza got no license for financial reasons, neither for the first division nor for the second division. The fans then re- founded the SP Zawisza and registered this club for the B-Class, the eighth Polish league. The WKS Zawisza SA did not report for the game operation and was dissolved.
