Gottfried Döhn

Gottfried Döhn (born June 10, 1951 in Dresden ) is a former German rower .

Gottfried Döhn started for the SC Einheit Dresden , where he was trained by Hans Eckstein . In 1973 he rowed in the four without a helmsman , with which he became GDR and European champion. In 1975 he moved to eighth and won the world championship title that year. The following year he won the gold medal with eighth in Montreal at the 1976 Olympic Games . For this success he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver. Then Döhn changed to the Dresden foursome with helmsman. In 1977 and 1978 the boat became world champions. Only in 1979, when he finished second in his boat class at the GDR championships, he could not qualify for the major events of the year. In Moscow he won his second Olympic gold in a foursome at the 1980 Olympic Games . In 1980, after the Games, he was awarded the Gold Patriotic Order of Merit.

After his active career, Döhn first worked as a driver. He became an employee of the Foreign Ministry and worked as a technical manager at the GDR embassy in Mali . Today he lives in Dresden and is a representative for pharmaceutical products.
