Andrew ("Andy") Holmes , MBE (born October 15, 1959 in London , † October 24, 2010 ibid) was a British rower .

Holmes, who grew up in London, won the gold medal in the four-man discipline at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles . In 1986 he won the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in two different competitions, on the one hand in the four without a helmsman, on the other hand in the two without a helmsman (together with Steven Redgrave ). In the same year in Nottingham, the world title in two with helmsman was added (with Redgrave and Patrick Sweeney ). Holmes, Redgrave and Sweeney won another world title in 1987 in Copenhagen .

At the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul , Holmes was able to win two more medals. He and Redgrave became Olympic champion for the second time in a two-man without a helmsman. In addition, with Sweeney, he won the bronze medal in two with helmsman. After this success, Holmes worked as a trainer in France for a year , but then, surprisingly for the public, withdrew completely from rowing. Instead, he built his own moving company in London.

Andrew Holmes died of the infectious disease leptospirosis at the age of 51 .
