James Fifer
James "Jim" Thomas Fifer (born July 14, 1930 in Tacoma , † June 7, 1986 in Seattle ) was an American rower and Olympic champion.
James Fifer and Duvall Hecht took part in the 1952 Olympic Games with helmsman James Beggs . They won the third run in the boat class two with helmsman , took fourth place in the second semifinals and were eliminated in the hope race against the later winners of the silver medal from Germany.
Four years later, the 1.86 m tall Fifer and the 1.88 m tall Pike competed in two without a helmsman . The two were able to prevail in the US trials against the 1952 Olympic champions Thomas Price and Charles Logg . At the Olympic Games in 1956, Fifer and Hecht won the preliminary and semi-finals by over ten seconds each. In the final, the two Americans won the gold medal eight and a half seconds ahead of the Soviet two.
