Duncan Free

Duncan Setth Free (born May 25, 1973 in Hobart , Tasmania ) is an Australian rower who won Olympic gold in two-man without a helmsman in 2008.

Duncan Free was born in Tasmania but lives in Sydney . Free was part of the Australian double foursome for many years . At the 1996 Olympic Games , he won bronze with the double foursome. In 1997 he received bronze in double sculls at the World Rowing Championships . In 1999 he won the world championship bronze again, this time in a double quad. After a fourth place in the double foursome at the 2000 Olympic Games at home in Sydney, no medal was won. At the 2004 Olympic Games , Free missed the finals with the Australian double scull.

Then Duncan Free switched to oar rowing and joined Drew Ginn in the two-man without a helmsman . In 2006 on Dorney Lake near Eton and in 2007 on the regatta course in Oberschleißheim near Munich , they won the world championship title twice in a row. In Beijing , Duncan Free won his first Olympic gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics , and it was the third for Drew Ginn.

In the course of his career, Free was a total of seven Australian champions in singles .
